What is DV SSL?

Domain Validated SSL confirms that you control the domain the certificate is issued for. This is done via:

Can I use DV SSL for my online store?

Technically yes. DV SSL encrypts the connection and shows HTTPS. Many online stores use DV SSL. For maximum customer trust we recommend OV SSL, which includes the organisation name in the certificate.

Does DV SSL work with automatic renewal (ACME)?

Yes. DV SSL is the certificate type best suited for ACME, since domain validation can be fully automated.

How long can a DV SSL certificate be valid?

At most 199 days now, and at most 99 days from 15 March 2027. With SSL Automation the certificate is renewed automatically before it expires.

Does FairSSL offer a cheaper alternative to Let's Encrypt?

Let's Encrypt is free but offers no support or OV/EV certificates. FairSSL DV certificates start from €22/year and include free phone support, SLA and additional features.
